ideas for one night in Cheshire

Thanks to the GPs we have 36 hours to ourselves. We'll be in Ceshire / could maybe manage Yorkshire at a push, but we don't want to waste too much time in the car.

Ideally we want a nice pub / b&b in the countryside. We'd like some nice food, we might go for a walk, do an activity like archery / clay pigeon shooting or something grown-up only.

Any thoughts?

Tatton Park may be a good place to start?

www.wizardsthatch.co.uk/index.htm might be worth a look

The Pheasant Inn in Burwardsley

The Bears' Paw in Warmingham

Both owned by the same people, good food, can stay over.

The Pheasant has spectacular views.

Also, The Pheasant is on the Sandstone Trail which is excellent for walking - near to Beeston Castle/Peckforton Hills/Bickerton Hills.

where are you starting from? manchester and a museum could be good, with a theatre show in the evening. (although i realise that's not very country, but it is grown up time)
or if you want somewhere walking, there's the roaches by macclesfield (which i appreciate is the other side to beeston).lots of lovely pubs that way.

or you could do a canal walk.

or chester zoo?

I would also recommend the Pheasant, fab food, nice rooms, roaring fires etc
