Love, love the Western Isles. Anyone know anything in the style of Blue Reef Cottages on Harris that accept children?

We stayed right very near to those this summer!
Lots of people were talking about them.

Oh those are beautiful! I love Harris.

goodluck · 08/10/2010 20:31

We really enjoyed it. We were in Northton just along the coast.

Our cottage was also quite speacial [for us anyway] but it doesn't have the same exterior visual appeal!

goodluck · 08/10/2010 20:32

speacial?? I cannot type tonight.

The view was just amazing, and the sea, and the seafood and the golden eagles. It was lovely.

Not looked to see what they've got in the Western Isles but Ecosse Unique are v good

Northernlurker · 08/10/2010 20:36

Also here on Mull and here

THese are all out of our league Grin but we go to Mull every year and totally love it!

Not western isles but we love Auchter Alyth Steadings near Perth.

That cottage in Harris looks awesome!

Portavadie Marina

Brand spanking new development with lovely little cottages looking over the water and fabulous modern apartments.

IMHO it's bound to go up in price when its more well established so I would get in while it's cheap! {skinflint emoticon}

Fabulous things to do, there's the spooky old abandoned oil workers village, the restaurant and facilities are top notch, very child friendly.

I honestly could not sing it's praises enough!

bethjeff · 08/10/2010 20:47

The cottages are not quite as characterful as the Harris ones as they are more modern but the surroundings etc make up for it hugely!

We stayed here a few years ago and it was lovely, would thoroughly recommend. (At the time I wanted to stay at the Blue Reef ones but they didn't accept dogs). Now we have a DS we are hoping to go back with child and dog!

Thanks ladies so much! I can open up the discussion to anywhere mainland north of Oban.

Love remote places - but like a bit of style! Don't get me wrong though I can also walk 20 miles and wild camp e.g Knoydart - just not on this planned trip! Smile

If you don't mind not being on an island try here

Fab pub next door and beautiful beaches

Sleep 4 and 2 with optional interconnecting door if you rent both together

We love Colonsay, a small Hebridean island!

www.colonsay.org.uk/

Don't know any luxury cottages though as we stayed in the more basic ones. It's popular with families with young children, as it's a small island with glorious beaches, 2 hours on the ferry from Oban, a real get-away-from-it-all.

Love all the Scottish islands we visited before children - Western Isles, Arran, Mull, Shetland, Orkney, but haven't been back with children yet.

This is my boss's holiday house:

Have never been myself but I hear nothing but good things from people who have been.

Haywire · 21/10/2010 19:34

oh oh oh we stayed at Blue Reef on our honeymoon
it was heavenly. We loved Harris too how could you not when you have to travel across a sea called the Minch past the summer isles to get there an a Calmac ferry. I often think of Scarista or Luskentyre or the view across to Taransay.

We stayed in a beautiful place on the main land called Badrallach
www.badrallach.com

and the week before our wedding on skye we stayed here www.unique-cottages.co.uk/cottages/westcoast/skye/sea_wrack_house

sighs wistfully

remembers pre dd holidays

We were on a cycling holiday in Harris when Blue Reef cottages were being built, we had to wait 10 mins because the road was shut while they did some explosion for the foundations or something? Anyway, was no hardship to have a wee breather in such a lovely spot.

Anyway, I digress..... Garmoran Square, Acharacle. Amazing! Lots of lovely beaches nearby and lovely lovely accommodation. And the owners were lovely and live next door if you have any problems.

I'm currently trying to find a house on N Uist for a holiday so if anyone knows one, let me know!
