Dad's 70th & brother's 30th - Trying to find Easter 2011 Half term alternatives to Center Parcs

The Center Parc online reviews are not selling it to me so I'm trying to find alternatives. MIL is trying to get me to book and brochure looks great but I reckon we can find nicer options...

Need somewhere with a pool, nice local area to explore, good for toddlers, pub/village to walk to... any ideas

Something different than Center Parcs but still has lovely pools and some activities but which encourages you to visit the surrounding countryside more than CP does.
