Hi, We are considering visiting Northumbria next summer but having difficulty deliberating where to stay. Would obviously like to be within reach of all major attractions (Alnick castle, Bamburgh etc) near a nice beach, and in a place with plenty of local character ! We've had conflicting opinions of seahouses but just wondered what anyone else thought..plus any other recommendations, Alnmouth was another place we thought about.. Thanks in advance, Louise

Alnmouth is beautiful and has a fantastic ice cream shop. There isn't much in Alnmouth itself other than said ice cream shop, a haunted pub and a beautiful beach but you are in close reach of all nearby attractions. Seahouses is a bit like a rubbish Blackpool with amusements and chippies galore. Given the choice I'd stay in Alnmouth and visit Seahouses.

I'd go with Warkworth. We stayed at Alnmouth this summer, and it was lovely, but I decided to try Warkworth next time, cos it looked so lovely.

Seahouses is definitely not my cup of tea. Ok for taking boat trips out to the Farne Islands, but that's about it!

Alnmouth definitely.

Alnmouth is right on the sea, you can stroll down to it, take a barbecue. In the summer, I like to be by the sea and Warkworth - though lovely - isn't.

There is a great choice of hotel restaurants to eat out in (for such a small place), most of which cater for children.

I don't like Freezehouses. Don't like its ambience at all. I would never base a holiday there. Worth visiting for its crazy golf and boat trips. That's it.

We had a summer holiday in Alnmouth.

How about Beadnell? It's a few miles from Seahouses, and is much less developed, but it has a lovely beach that goes on for miles. There are a few shops, pubs, B&B/hotels etc. There's a really nice pub, the name of which I can't remember, but it does good food & is v friendly.

Warkworth & Bamburgh are both lovely too.
Alnwick is a bustling little town and is worth considering too, it's not that far from Alnmouth.

Seahouses is a bit naff IMHO.

We stayed in Alnmouth this summer. The Red Lion has a double and a twin room on their top floor with a bathroom which you can book as a family suite.

The bus to Alnwick stops outside the pub and the beaches round there are fantastic.

I heartily recommend a trip to Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle.

We stayed in a s/c cottage in teh centre of the village. The dds could walk to the ice cream shop, the park, the shops and we could all walk down to the beach. Was lovely.

www.coquetcottages.co.uk/ This is the company we're looking at using next year. I'm not attached to them in any way, so this isn't an advert, but lordy...these are possibly the nicest cottages I've ever seen! I am just waiting to see when DH can go!

I wouldn't base myself in Seahouses either.
We did stay near Bamburgh though and it was great.
