What should I not miss on a child free weekend to Edinburgh?

Am having a weekend away with my best mate for my birthday next month and we're off to Edinburgh - yay!

I've never been - what would be on your to-do list? Am massively interested in history and ghosty things and think we'll be doing a ghost walk and going to see the spooky underground business.

Any other recommendations? Grin

Mary king's Close on the Royal Mile is an underground tour which is good.

there are two main drinking areas - grass market and around princess street (where are you staying?)

also if you like italian food at a reasonabe price then can i recommend vittoria restaurant. (they actually own two in the city centre)

Thankyou! Have just ordered this book about underground Edinburgh which looks really interesting. We're staying just off the Royal Mile, it looks really lovely. Italian is good, will check it out, cheers for the tip!

If the weather is very very good, then roof top cocktails at Oloroso are to be recommended.

Oooh, that sounds lovely. Wink

Greyfriars kirkyard is supposed to be haunted and also very historical (political prisoners were held there and there is the story about the dog 'Greyfriars Bobby'.)

Arthurs seat coffins are quite spooky and I think they're in the museum.

I've been told that this is an interesting tour although maybe more for people who live here but it's just worth remembering that there are lots of wee closes off the Royal Mile that you can explore.

Spend an evening at the spa in the Sheraton Grand Hotel. There is a rooftop jacuzzi type pool where you can lie on beds just beneath the water and look up at the stars.
