Hi All

My stepdad's 70th in Dec and we'd like to hire a cottage either in a complex or on it's own where it has on sire access to indoor pool, pub nearby and maybe something interesting nearby - but not essential. I know you ladies must know of places!

We are in Swansea and ideally wld consider anything in a 2-2.5hr drive radius - any direction! Thanks

We went to www.scolton.com last year in Pembrokeshire.

Has a lovely indoor pool with a steam room as well. Really clean and well maintained.

Owners friendly and welcoming.

Definitely recommend it.

how many people?

charlieandlola · 19/09/2010 21:53

Bluestone.

sorry should have added there are 9 of us in total and we would love access to a pool. A large dining table wld also be ideal as my youngest nephew can't sit still long enough at a restaurant!

Another vote for Bluestone. It's fabulous.

Have just stayed at Brimbles, The Barton, Poughill nr. Crediton in Devon. Absolutely huge, beautiful, barn conversion. Sleeps 10 over 5 bedrooms, enormous lounge, enormous kitchen/dining room which has (locked)direct access to an indoor swimming pool which is shared only with renters in the other barn conversion. There is also a seperate playroom/children's lounge with tv/dvd and private fenced garden. The owners are friendly and will take the children to feed the chickens and pig. They are currently building a children's playground on site and there is a good playground in the village. Pubs reasonably close by, but the owner will cook for you in your cottage, so no need to go out. Fab place for a family break - we loved it. Stunning countryside too and an hour to the coast or Exmoor. Maybe a little far perhaps, but worth a look. Good luck with your search.

www.hicksfarmholidays.co.uk/ - we go there every year with PILs and extended family. Massive kitchen table in Orchard House. Google map says 2h 15m. In middle of nowhere but beautiful!

My sis has been to Bluestone and loved it but don't think there is enough room in one single property? Love the look of all the others so now just down to some family discussing on price and distance! Thanks so much for your ideas.

I stayed here with my inlaws.

Was fabulous but sleeps 8 properly and has 1 toddler bed. I'm in Swansea too and i don't think it took over 2 hours to get to.

We have stayed here

and here. Both are lovely

Compton Pool is also fantastic

Thanks Tilly - lovely but a little over our budget. Mimi - I spotted this one too and Stepdad loves twitching so would be perfect if we can gather our pennies together (70th b'day a week before Xmas is not easy on the pocket!)

Clydey cottages on Cardigan/ Pembrokeshire border. Must be under 2h from Swansea. We stayed in Feb and had a fantastic time. Various properties of varying sizes. Pool, indoor soft play (if dc of an age for that), playroom, farm animals, lovely walks and lots of country pubs close by.

Thanks everyone soooo much. We went with wearymum's suggestion in the end - sound like lovely people too. They were very impressed to have had a referral from Mn. Maybe they will get another one after our weekend?

Cheers
