Can you recommend a hotel near Newcastle/Sunderland/Durham?

Hello,
Will be visiting family in the next few weeks in the North East and would really like to combine it with an overnight, or couple of nights, in a hotel. We have two dc, 1 and 3, and would like somewhere fairly small and family friendly that do evening meals and are not just hen/stag do magnets. Can you recommend anywhere? Thanks in anticipation.

We regularly visit family in the North East and always stay at The Grand Hotel in Tynemouth, family rooms with sea views and breakfast are approximately £130 per night for the whole family. The beach is right outside with the most fantastic cafe right on the sand called Crusoes. It really is lovely. Only thing you have to worry about is wether there is a wedding going on in the hotel, if there is ask for a room far away from the function room. Wrap up well, the walks are amazing from this hotel but it can be very cold this time of year.
Book early if it is over a weekend.

Another vote for Jesmond Dene House. My sister got married there and it's amazing.
Seaham Hall is also beautiful in Sunderland
In Durham try the Radisson Blu.
You don't say exactly where you are staying as there are other places like Slaley Hall/ Matfen a bit further out.
