Im hoping i can get a couple of ideas for a beach within 2 or so hours by train from London where a car isnt needed while you're there a couple of days. Ive heard Bournemouth is great but we are hoping to go tomorrow and i think it will be heaving w/ crowds!. Thought about Eastbourne but reviews dont seem all too favorable. Last minute i know but if anyone has any suggestions for carless- we have a 2-yr old so sandy beach wd be nice but im not picky at this point!

Southend?

West Wittering lovely - near Chichester.

Thanks! I researched west wittering but seemed a car would be needed to get from train to hotels to beach... Dint mind doing a taxi but is w. Wittering doable with no car?
Will look at Southend too.

IIRC not too far for a taxi from Chichester but might be wrong. It really is lovely there. Don't think you need car once there, there is a little shop and cafe by the car park [haven't been for a few years might be more developed now]

Apparently there's a beach at the 02 arena and you can get there by boat along the Thames. Never been myself, but its on the website.

Not sure its the same though .... Grin

I second Broadstairs, I'm going tomorrow too.

You can also go from St Pancras - only 1hr 38mins.
