Anyone done the Edinburgh festival with kids? Or should we just go to Hay again?

Dh hasn't been to Scotland much and I've been looking at next years holiday. I fancy staying somewhere within 30 miles of Edinburgh and visiting the festival but not using the whole holiday for it.

OR

Just holidaying somewhere around Edinburgh or Glasgow for odd visits in and then rest of the time for other things

OR

we go to Hay Festival for the umpteenth time!

Will be dds9/11 and a baby and we like to be busy but not spend a fortune!

The Edinburgh festival is fantastic. There is lots of street theatre and the streets are buzzing. There is something for everyone especially children and you do get shows that have free entry. The only thing I would suggest is that you book really early as accommodation is hard to come by. We went last weekend and really enjoyed ourselves.

Masses of stuff for children, as deste says - street theatre, great puppet shows and theatre, and loads of good stuff in the Book Festival for children too.

Also lovely beaches not far away, eg North Berwick, Aberlady or north a bit in Fife.

Not that we ever do any of it, and we only live down the road in Glasgow.

As deste says, book early.

Excellent Thanks. We are looking at staying outside Edinburgh & I've seen a few places with vacancies so will sort something soon hopefully.

No take my kids as often as we can (off again next year). Lots of shows aimed just at kids and some of the best street entertainers to be found anywhere. Kids love it.
