Family friendly hotels in Birmingham please?

So, we've decided to take the DC to the Night Garden Live show, closest to us is Birmingham so we're going to go overnight and do something the day before too (Suggestions? Aquarium?)

The show is in Cannon Hill Park so ideally a hotel near there would be handy.

Anyone got any recommendations for somewhere suitable for a small family? (DC are 3 & 1)

Thanks Smile

I would just go for a Premier Inn, they're always clean, beds are comfy and they're reasonably priced. Have heard that the Novotel, Birmingham is good for families but haven't stayed there myself.

Have heard that the aquarium is very overpriced, but Thinktank is supposed to be good. Don't know when you're going, but there is an animatronic dinosaur exhibition on at Birmingham museum until Sept 5th.

Don't know anything about hotels in Brum as I live there...Grin

If you're staying near Cannon Hill Park, there's the Nature Centre, which is pretty cheap and entertaining enough for the littluns.

DD(3) loves Thinktank, but it's £12 adult and £8 for a 3yo. If you go by public transport, you can get vouchers to get 1/3 off at the local train station - if you can find them, ours often runs out.

Haven't been to the dinosaurs at Birmingham Museum yet...

Oh, the thought occurs that right by Cannon Hill Park is not the nicest of areas. Not violent or anything, just a bit tatty. So you might want to stay anywhere in central/south birmingham and just drive in....

(with apologies to MN'ers in Balsall Heath!)

Going in October, so too late for the dinosaurs Freddo - That would have been great though!

Thanks Heathen - I will look at Central B'ham hotels - Hopefully find one where I don't pay as much in parking as I do for the room Shock

Nature Centre looks good too.

Actually, we recently went to Swindon (it's non-stop glamour round here!) and stayed in a Holiday Inn Express room with double bed & sofa bed for ~£60, was all very clean and functional. The one in Brum seems to be a similar deal, says £10/day parking. Only thing is, it's on Broad Street, the centre of Birmingham nightlife, so could be quite noisy. But handy for restaurants.

Don't know if you were thinking a bit upmarket of that though!

Wow, Swindon - Lucky you Wink. (used to love there!)

Sounds like a good deal, will consider it. Pool might be nice though - It's just before I return to work after Mat Leave so a little bit of luxury might be nice. I'm wondering about a Hilton/Marriott or something now... Need to get googling I think.
