We are thinking of going for a few days this week as the weather doesn't look good enough to go camping.

Does anybody have any experience or recomendations. We are thinking of going to North Wales, Yorkshire or the Lake District.

You may find it very difficult to be able to book a family room this late (if this is what you would require).

We stayed in the youth hostel in York when DD was a baby. They have family rooms and I would recommend it for a cheap and cheerful holiday. No idea if you'll get a booking though, we went in September and it was quiet.

I have always taken the kids to youth hostels.

I use YHA and Hostel World.

The boys favourite hostel is at Arnside because of the games room downstairs!

I liked Helvellyn hostel. It is a walk to go back down to Glenridding but you can have great fun on Ullswater by hiring canoes. Nice pubs nearby and stunning views.

I have used these as well hostels

Sometimes you can't get a family room so it may be worth while, if there are say 5 of you, booking a 6 room dormitory and paying for the empty bed to make sure it stays free.
