In a week's time we are visiting Wales for the first time with a 3 year old and 20 month old. Staying in a cottage and we are looking forward to it (as much as you can with children this age!!!) but have looked in guidebooks for ideas on days out and they are very castle, scenery orientated...my son loves any kind of transport (especially railways and tractors) and daughter likes animals!! Anyone with children of this age got any ideas for good days out in Mid/south-west Wates??? Husband is bringing the bikes and bike trailer but I don't want to do that every day!!

Hello - we are going to be staying in a cottage in Mid Glam (nr Brecons) in just over a weeks time (our children are 22m, 4 and 6) There is plenty to do with young children as lets face it they are happy with a park and swings and other children around.

Our plan is too keep things low key and do a trip to the seaside (The Gower) while we are there. There is also the possibility of getting the train to Cardiff and visiting the bay etc or even Barry Island.

For transport enthusiasts the steam railway and the Outdoor St Fagans museum is worth a visit too.

Enjoy your stay.
