Help London Hotel wanted (by someone who hasn't a clue!)

We want to book one night stay in London but I really don't know the area at all so I have absolutely no idea where I need to be!

We want to do touristy things but would ideally like to be within walking distance of some of them so probably pretty central do you think? Oh and it can't cost too much either - not a big ask then .

I need to get booking this to take advantage of advance cheap rail fare so any ideas purrlease? Thank you

Travelodge have some central London ones although the most central one - in Covent Garden - doesn't look that cheap to me.

Grange Hotels are quite nice, some of them central and some of them cheaper than the Travelodge (though you have to do a careful search with your dates).

We're staying at premier inn county hall, its about £120 I think for a family of 4 which doesn't sound too bad to me for central london. It has great reviews on tripadvisor and is right next to london eye, across the river from big ben etc the dd's super excited

The Kensington hotel which is part of the doyle collection is very nice and we got a very good deal last year.
