Please recommend me a hotel on the Suffolk coast

I'd like to spoil my DH for his 40th birthday with an overnight trip to the seaside - I'm thinking the Suffolk coast around Southwold, Dunwich, Walberswick etc. We have a one year-old DD. I'm looking for a family-friendly hotel that does good food and can either arrange babysitting services or won't mind if we take the baby monitor into the restaurant with us (it's very rare for DD to make any noise once we've put her down for the night).

Any recommendations?

Brudenell in Aldeburgh has just been refurbed, rooms all look lovely.
All the restaurants in town (Regatta food is beautiful)are family friendly if you want to eat out.
I'm sure the hotel will arrange babysitting -hey I'll come and babaysit for you! Or won't mind the monitor in teh restaurant.
I do think they've upped the prices since the refurb... The white Lion is their sister hotel, a bit cheaper as not been refurbed but also OK with families and food is good.
Whena re you thinking of coming?

Thank you, anon - not least for the babysitting offer !

I hadn't thought about Aldeburgh as we tend to go a bit further South on our seaside expeditions, but will definitely keep that in mind. We're quite flexible about dates - DH's birthday is on the 7th but we're looking at mid-week deals in the week that follows.

Current favourite is this place - quite an indulgence but you don't turn 40 every day...

I've had a meal in Sutherland house, the food is lovely, rooms look lovely too!

What about Thorpeness, rooms are more basic but grounds are beautiful.
Thorpeness hotel & golf club. Near the house in the clouds and overlooking Thorpeness mere, very peaceful & a short stroll to the beach.
