My son is obsessed with coding, to the degree he’s asked for extra a level maths tutoring “for fun”. He’s currently at college and will be heading to uni to do computing in September. He wants to learn more about calculus and quaternions but the maths tutors I’ve approached so far have said this isn’t something they can help with. Should I be looking for a computer studies tutor instead? A pure maths tutor? Haven’t a clue how to phrase the ask on Facebook groups, can anyone advise?

Hi, I'm a maths teacher and tutor. Your son sounds great! The topics your son is interested in are on the A-Level Further Maths syllabus. They will be covered at university as part of a computer science degree, but it's always useful to have a head start with the mathematical content of the course. I tutor up to this level, PM if you are interested. Even if I can't help, I can point you in the direction of done good resources for your son to self-study.

Fantastic, thanks! I will pm you. He has done some self study but it’s hard to know where to start and I’m no help if he gets stuck!

my friend's son has coding sessions (he is quite a bit younger than your post suggests - he is 6, nearly 7). I will DM you who they use as I've signed my little boy up to start after easter

This is something they go online and figure out for themselves especially at his age

He shouldn't need a tutor
