Primary tutor (maths) North Somerset?

Just sticking a message on here in case anyone can help - my eldest (state primary, yr 3) is very behind with his maths especially. SATS reading result at expected level but SPAG behind, maths pre-key stage level. I’ve tried to help him myself but I think a trained outsider would be more effective 🙃 no idea how to trust you’ll find someone good though.

Have asked a friend but her woman is full. Otherwise I’ll ask around his school/the secondary I work in…any other ideas?

I'm a primary tutor (fully booked) and the only listing website I use is First Tutors as they don't take an ongoing cut of each lesson. They take references, check DBS etc. Teachers to your home is also a reputable agency who treat their tutors reasonably well also. This is important if you want the tutor to be committed.

It might be worth trying local FB pages for adverts and recommendations.

Any genuine tutor will happily do an introductory chat on the phone/Zoom or a short meeting where they should be happy to share their qualifications and DBS etc. Expect to pay for any lessons or assessments.

Have you tried Kumon?

PrincessPotato · 09/04/2024 23:41

Thanks both - I’ve had a response from a tutor with a lot of primary experience via Tutorful who seems good. Not taking bookings until after GCSEs but that isn’t long really. @rosesinmygarden i’ll check the sites you mention though!

@Moonshine86 one of his sporting buddies does Kumon but I’d imagine he’s way behind his age group and it could be embarrassing? Need to look more at how it works. Feel like one-on-one would be best though.

Try asking your son's teacher. S/he will be aware of good local tutors.
