If anyone is having difficulty getting their son/daughter to engage with creative writing, I would like to share some resources that I used with my son when he was preparing for private school entrance tests a couple of years ago. It's basically a series of 10 blogs over the summer that links with really useful resources on topics such as descriptive language, storyline, ways to start/end a story etc. Please check it out at misswritelondon.weebly.com. And good luck to anyone going through this process at the moment...

There are quite a few good creative writing books out there. Amazon lets you download a sample for free and it's a good way to see if it suits you without having to buy.

The best way is to try different methods and see what works. One important aspect is finding out if your child works best with instructions, with just a starter or even hands-on with creative activities. The activities type can be really good for kids who would run a mile from written work.
