Any experience of go karts for 5 year olds? Any alternatives to Kettler?

DS1's birthday next month and DH wants to get him a go kart.

We're thinking along the lines of this, but i think it's a bit pricey.

Also he's quite a small 5 year old, so I'm worried about him not being able to pedal it.

Any experience?

TIA

hi dragon! my ds2 has a go-kart from Toys r us, made by Injusa (I know this because he has had it 2 years and has ridden it so much that one of the inner tubes has worn out but don't take that as a negative, please!) It came from toys r us, they still stock them, and if your ds wears it out like mine has then you can get all the bits Oh my word he loves the thing. He had it for christmas when he was 4 yrs 4 months, is six next week and it has plenty room to "extend" yet, my 8.7yr old can ride it easily so no problem with its lasting potential. My lot aren't large for their age either, we also had the worry that ds2 wouldn't reach lol!
What d'ya need to know? Will get you a link in a mo

btw, DS1's got a kettler one but got it for 7th b/day, I can ride it lol it's huge!! - although it looks pretty similar to the one you linked to.

no, have seen that one though, appears sturdy enough

SixtyFootDoll · 06/09/2009 21:13

Mine have both got Kettlers but to be honest I think they are worht the money they are so sturdy

SixtyFootDoll · 06/09/2009 21:14

I got my kettler ones off an ebay company they weren't that expensive

Kbear · 06/09/2009 21:38

My dad got my two Kettler go-karts on e-bay. He painted one of them pink and silver for DD! They have spent many years zooming round M&D's garden! There are usually lots for sale on ebay.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 21:50

DH is quite keen to go for the one I linked to.

And dad's know about this sort of stuff for boys don't they.

looks good, your DS will love it. They have an adjustable seat so it will fit him for a good few years.

SixtyFootDoll · 06/09/2009 22:13

Lots of good quality 2nd hand ones on ebay
My 2 Ds 's love their go karts and drive all around our cul de sac on theirs

Wolfgirl · 11/09/2009 14:42

Mmmm... however, I cant seem to find prices on their home page, try this site for them... but be warned!!! they are not cheap, compared to Toys r Us for example!

here...

Hi guys,

Check out Gorilla Karts. They do both big karts for over 8 year olds and small go-karts for kids aged 4-7. They have designs that both boys and girls will love and they seem to focus on safety to give you peace of mind.

Hope this helps!
