Books for 16 month old boy

Hoping for some advice!

Our godson and his wife have recently been posted overseas for 4 years (armed forces) and they have a 16 month old son. The family are back over here on leave currently and it's their baby boy's birthday while they are here. Can anyone suggest what we could buy him for a birthday gift? It will need to be something small-ish and light for them to take it back when they return to their posting in Eastern Europe. Baby's Mum is an early years teacher and reads to him a lot, so I'm wondering if some books might be a good idea for packing and not too space-consuming. I have no idea what is 'in' or popular at the moment so would love any suggestions.

Definitely open to non-book options too, if anyone can think of anything not too big and lightweight for transporting. I seem to be having a huge brain melt at the moment and can't think of anything that's a little different!

Thanks in advance.

One of those magic drawing boards that work with a magnetic pen. Hours of fun!

Stories from the Acorn Wood series, if they haven't got them already!

My 16 month old loves the 'that's not my' books collection, they are touch & feel books. There's a huge variety to choose from, his favourite is 'That's not my bus'
They are a nice size, ideal for popping in a suitcase.
Acorn wood series are great too

Apologies, I said it is his birthday, I meant Christening! I don't want to buy the traditional Christening type gifts as I think he'll be receiving those aplenty.
