Ride on toy/balance bike for 1st birthday

Hey all
LO will be turning one soon.
we have a barely used hand me down balance bike (frog tadpole mini) but thinking it will be a bit to soon for LO to use (has taken a couple random steps so not walking yet).
any ride on toys you can recommend until ready to use the bike?

Are scuttlebugs any good? Or any other ride one that would be good as a pre balance bike?
thanks

Scuttle bugs are good

FTMUM2023 · 11/04/2023 08:39

@00100001 oh that’s good. I also like that they don’t cost alot (in case LO is ready for the bike soon after.)

The scuttlebug lasted us just over a year.. he had it for his 1st birthday and then we went upto a frog balance bike.. sold the scuttlebug on for a fiver.. its well worth the money

Scuttlebugs are fab especially for folding up under the pushchair when they inevitably decide they don't want to ride them anymore.

Check out FB marketplace as we picked ours up for next to nothing in fantastic condition and sold it about 18 months later for about the same despite near constant use.

@Rawrrawr1 @MuffinToSeeHere thats great thanks.
yes I’ll check face book market, even new they are not as pricy as other toys.
i like that they can fold up and fit in the buggy!

think we’ll go for scuttlenbug. Now choosing design lol

Get a scuttlebug xl as they will last longer.
we had a scuttlebug at 1, then at 2.5 upgraded to the scuttlebug xl. He’s 3 and still uses it around the house. You can adjust the leg height as they get taller 😊

You can pick them up second hand cheap too.

My niece used hers for about a year. She learned her balance bike around 2.5. and it was passed on soon after.

Newmum110 · 11/04/2023 09:23

I also recommend a scuttlebug. My lo got one for 1st birthday & gets so much use out of it.

FTMUM2023 · 11/04/2023 17:24

@Newmum110 thats great. Seems like a perfect first birthday gift.

@00100001 oh that’s great. Should get plenty use out of it then. Great to get the full summer out of it too!

it will be easy to travel with to visit family too since it folds up

thanks all for helping me decide!!! :)

Scuttle bugs are great

Downtogetdown · 12/04/2023 15:21

We had a tadpole mini at 11 months. He loves sitting on it/shuffling about but it didn’t get used loads for a couple months. Wasn’t a total waste of time though 😊

houseargh · 12/04/2023 15:26

Definitely recommend getting the one with extendable legs. We got the regular (non-extendable) one and my daughter grew out of it just as she decided she loved roaming around on it 😑

FTMUM2023 · 12/04/2023 21:50

@Danikm151 @houseargh
i never even knew that was a thing!!!
mill check it out thanks.
@Downtogetdown aw, well who knows how my little one will go. But at least we didn’t have to buy the tadpole, and we can pass it down the family for sure :)
its so small!!!
@PollyMumsnet thanks so much I’ll. heck it out! :)

Anyone tried a Lena toddlebike? Those things are so light! And can get one on Amazon for £14!
but just wondering if anyone has had one?
