Help! Birthday Present toys for a 6 year old Boy and 8 year old Girl

I am in need of ideas and help as have NO idea what to buy these 2 little ones having a joint party in 10 days time.

I do not know the families well so unsure of any particular passions but any advice please for ' can't go wrong ' gifts??

Budget about £40 for the pair - is that even possible? My boys are in 20's now and Im so out of touch :)

Lego for both. Creator Lego which makes 3 different things is great. Look on amazon or Argos.

Airfix models are cool for both!
If too complex then I agree with Cherry, lego is the way to go!
If they love Star Wars then Lego Star Wars sets etc!
