I want to buy some sylvanian families sets for them 6 nearly 7 year old for Xmas but not sure where to start? Anyone have any ideas which sets to buy to start the collection?

I'd start with the Beechwood Hall gift set. It's a simple house with two figures and some basic furniture.

Look on ebay or wait for amazon (or similar) deals. Stuff is frighteningly expensive full price and is often around half price second hand or when deals are on.

Also, what size figures does s/he like, some things like the primrose windmill/nursery are scaled for the babies, other bits are family sized.

The Cosy Cottage starter home is good value compared with the rest of it - comes with furniture and a bunny. Currently £15.99 at John Lewis or about £20 elsewhere (eg Argos)
