What are shopkins? Good toy or nightmare?

My 5yo dd has told us what she's going to ask for from Santa this year. I know it's ridiculous but she did this last year and stuck to her guns for 7 months. Anyway among other things she's said shopkins, I don't think she's every seen them in real life, just heard about them on the playground. All I know is that they're tiny and collectible. What do I need to know? Are they a compete nightmare? I'm wary of toys that are going to cause oneupmanship at school if one child has more, better ones, the newest ones. If so we have some time to discourage her. If it makes a difference het birthday is in November and by Christmas we'll have an 18 month old dd

My three year old has recently got into shopkins and any little toy that comes in a blind bag.

She got a little set for a present and has enjoyed playing with it. She enjoys just lining them up or putting them in a bag or bowl and carrying them around.

The sets can be expensive though so maybe look for bundles on eBay if you want to get into them.

My DD has been into them since she was 5. We have about 100 of them! They are little plastic figures of everyday shopping items. I can't see the appeal myself but she makes up her own little games with them and they keep her quiet for ages. There are various accessories like shopping centres etc.

Both. They are very popular toys and a nightmare, my house is covered in the little fuckers. They are quite sturdy though, judging by the ones that have been through the washing machine

How old is your dd now gracegrape? Definitely will be looking at some second hand, there's loads available.

She already loves Lego and that can be a pain with all the tiny bits, I can see little mixed Lego and shopkins piles everywhere in my future

Nearly 7 - wants more shopkins for her birthday. They do get everywhere and we've definitely lost some along the wayside. I have a big tin with a lid that we keep them in. They are excellent for taking on trips/holidays etc though as they are very portable.

My dd loves them! Plays for hours with her dolls buying stuff, going on picnics etc.

Another 6yo here who has spent hours playing with shopkins. They have given a lot of her old toys a new lease of life too. For example her toy farm which she had grown bored of is now a shopkins farm.

I too was dubious at first but they have been great for us. Also agree with their portability!

My DD announced at Christmas she wanted them and MIL obliged. She is thrilled when opening the packet, never played with but they fit perfectly up the hoover tube I've since find out.

My dd has loved them for a few months and has loads. She also loves opening them and we have to keep the bloody bags and little boxes too.
She also has nom noms.
They are lovely and I love that she can afford a couple with a bit of pocket money. She really gets a lot of play out of them too. Lines them up and shows us what she's got. She also puts them back into the packets and re opens them 😂

I am amused that she knows if one is missing even out of the millions she has! Must be good for their memories.
