Advice on water toys for toddler

Hi all, my 20 month DD is obsessed with playing with running water. A bowl of water with cups won't cut it, she insists on playing with the sink and running water from the taps. It's obviously a bit environmentally wrong to just pour gallons of water away, and I'm worried she'll scald herself if I'm not careful - can anyone recommend an alternative? I'd like to let her explore her interest in moving water as she's fascinated at the moment. In summer she loved watering the garden, but it's too cold now.

Google water play tables. You can get some with funnels and water wheels on but am sure I have seen a play sink with water that comes out the taps

Mine stands on a step and does the dishes with me. I'm also a bad person and used to run the kitchen tap to take all the hot while toddler knocked self out in the loo.

Hi Munchkinmaster, I like the idea of getting her to do dishes with me - that way she can exercise her fascination and we can get something useful done at the same time. Mine loves flushing the loo too - I'm sure she's going to break it one day but I can't say 'no' to everything in the bathroom!

Don't expect to get many dishes done!

Can you get a tough spot/ cat litter tray for her to play in or as pp suggested water table
Perhaps playing in a different way she will be open to more things rather than just taps

Something like this? You could put it on a groundsheet-type mat to stop water going everywhere! www.amazon.co.uk/AquaPlay-660-Aqua-Playn-Go/dp/B0017SXU06/ref=sr_1_1?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1331642767&sr=1-1&tag=mumsnet

I love the look of that 'play n go'! I had had a bit of a look around water tables but couldn't see any with the moving water thing which I think is what seems to get her going. The bigger problem is space - the kitchen and bathroom are small, and everywhere else is carpeted and I'm not sure a groundsheet would be effective. But I think I will look out on ebay for a smallish Play n Go or something similar. In the meantime I will combine what Awakeagain and islandmummy suggested, and put a tray on a groundsheet, and see if that sparks her interest without the tap. Thanks very much everyone for the suggestions!
