My son is full of beans, very active and coming up to 2. I am looking at a bike options but am clueless at this juncture. I'd be grateful of any guidance at this point as not sure where to start. I do know that he's a little so don't know if i'm meant to be looking at balance bikes (if so which ones?) or bikes with stabilisers?

He currently zooms about on a scooter, rides ons (scuttle bugs etc)

Thanks so muvh in advance - so much out there, im a bit bewildered!

I would say balance bike. Although I don't know about best brands etc.

My ds only really mastered pedalling a bike with stabilisers recently at 3.5yrs although he's not the most coordinated of kids.

Thanks Waggamamma - anyone else?

I'd go for a balance bike - one of the lightweight metal ones. Islabikes are very good, but expensive. However, they do keep their value and you would recoup a lot of what you paid if you sold it on.

Oh amazing thank you - that looks perfect!

We got ds2 a little balance bike from puky when he was 2. Was a big hit.

Definitely balance bike, and would also recommend the Islabike Rothan.

Balance bike! We had a metal puky one which was great. There are also wooden ones which are much lighter if you need to carry them.

Balance Bike.

Isla are fab, as are Puky's.

Ridgeback and striders are the other brands I know.

addictedtosugar · 07/08/2014 20:16

I'd go for a metal frame rather than wooden - slimmer frame makes a better riding position.

Balance bike! We have an early rider wooden one, still going strong 6 years and 3 kids later. They've all gone on to the smallest Islabike with pedals at 3y6m ish.
The balance bike was £90, best money by far we've spent on the kids.

Balance bike every time. Decathlon £30 small metal frame one. Give a 2 year old a balance and egg them using it and they never need stabilisers. They will ride a bike with pedals between 3-4. DO NOT then give then stabilisers as it's a backward step
