Hot wheels set or other toy for 7 year old?

I'm looking for a Christmas present for 7 year old boy, thought about Hot Wheels but don't know where to start! Also seem quite expensive, wanting to spend about £20-£30 ideally. Any ideas?

my son is only four so no advice for a seven year old, sorry.

just wanted to say don't waste money on hot wheels tracks i have had three or four for DS and they are very flimsy and come apart easily, he still tries to buy them with pocket/birthday money and i dont allow it because they are such a waste.
