ELC paint pads - any good?

Anyone got strong opinions on getting ELC paint pads for a 20 month old for Christmas. Do they wash off hands/clothes ok? They look like quite a good 'starter paint' for younger kids to do messy play.

They are great to use, clean, good prints. But we found that after a month or so of use, they dried out even when we stored them well.
