maybe that should be gift ideas.

2 nephews age 8 and 10 fairly typical boys I would say in that they want iPods and other gadgets but that's not going to happen!

Grateful for all ideas
Thanks

I've had a spate of parties for boys of this age recently and the things that seem popular are: Nerf guns, lego (particularly Starwars and Harry Potter - which is quite expensive) and Monopoly (especially the new Olympic version).

Thanks
Hadn't seen Olympic monopoly!

I would go with the nerf guns, also a magic set, practical joke set, and I know it sounds boring, but tokens!! DS2 who is 9 was made up when he got a whsmith voucher (comics) and and argos voucher for his birthday!

Would endorse Nerf guns - ds (8) loves them. He also likes the various make your own Robot kits you can get for about £10.

There are various on-line games they are really into. DS loves Dragon Vale (on the I-Pad) and if you gave him £5 worth of crystals to use in the game, he would think you were God. Might be worth finding out if they are into anything like that.

Boys that age often like collecting things so it might be worth asking if there is a collection to be added to.

Other than that I would say lego (expensive though) and nerf guns. Never clothes and books only for boys who really like them (as opposed to mums who ask for books because they wish their boys liked them). Experiment/science kits and model airplanes are great for kids who are interested. If you ever wanted to buy a big present for both of them Scalextric is great fun and can be added to.

I often bought kites as birthday presents for boys that age as it was a bit different.

Thanks guys some nice suggestions

Are boys that age into hot wheels?

It's cheaper than the scalextric isn't it?

Hot wheels is aimed at younger. DS nearly 8 still plays with his but has loads and at the moment is making a track which goes down the stairs, loop the loop, into next room etc and sending marbles down.

Anything which is linked to their football team eg goalie gloves
Brainbox game - the football one
Star wars / harry potter top trumps.
Ninjago lego (Asda often cheaper than Amazon)
Vouchers for cinema or 10 pin bowling

what about giving them some vouchers that they can use online - like Amazon - then they can go online and choose their own gifts. At least you will know they will get exactly what they want...

The Real Adventure Den Kit (can't link, sorry, but googling den kit should find - costs 30 something quid) was a big hit with DD - it comes in a haversack to make a crude tent.
