Which playmat/babygym is best?

I am first time mum and have started buying baby bits. However, there is so many playmats to choose from!
Which ones are best, if any?
Are they all the same underneath it all, or do the brighter ones tend to stimulate baby more?
Can anyone recommend any to look at?

I got the Baby Einstein one from Mothercare. In my opinion it's the best one I've seen.

I got a turtle one from fisher price (don't think they do it now), my advice is buy a cheap one you can hang your own stuff from or get a secondhand one, they are not worth spending a fortune on as they don't get used for long.

I was given a very simple square mat with an arch-bar over it.
it did the job.

I heard so much about these Lamaze mats, toys etc the reviews etc are fab on development but seem so expensive!

The Fisher Price rainforest one is fab. I got mine second hand.
