Scaletrix - waste of money for a 6yr old? What is your experience with it?

DS dh has been muttering about wanting a scaletrix for Christmas. There are a bamboozling number of sets out there. Can anyone recommend a set suitable for a 6yr old (almost 7yrs) that isn't going to languish in a cupboard for the rest of the year. Thanks Smile

Hi
We got one for ds last year-paid about 80 i think . Its the top gear one and i bought it from amazonx. he loved it and he and his dad spent hours over christmas playing with it.
It comes out from time to time but im glad i didnt spend on a digital track which i nearly did because even tho he would gladly play on it a lot more its gets on my nerves as we dont really have the space to leave it up ! 6 is a great age btw hell manage it fine.

DS who is 8 has expressed interest in one through his christmas list - needs to have two cars and be in a figure 8 he says. So any suggestions would be welcomed here as well :)

I think it's great - ours has been much used. I do recommend the Micro-Scalextric, though - much less of a faff in a confined space. The same, just miniature.

We've got a cheap copy from debenhams which DS & DH sit for hours playing with it's just a figure of 8 with a red & a blue car. My DS is only 3.5 tho so you may want something more complicated altho it works well for 36yo DH
