A 'little boy' doll for DS?

I'm sure this has been done before but I have searched the MN archives and can't find a solution!

My ds is 3 and he loves playing with his big sister's dolls - both the bigger 'little girl' dolls and her Barbies. He plays lovely imaginative games with them, both with his sister and on his own and this is something I'm keen to encourage (all part of my master plan to raise the perfect husband Wink)

Anyway, he has increasingly been asking for a 'little boy doll with a hard face and hair, that looks like me', but I have scoured the internet and can't find anything that fits the bill. He already has one of the Haba boy dolls, like this one which is dearly loved, but that is more of a rag doll and he really wants one with a vinyl face, hair that can be brushed and clothes that can be changed.

I've found umpteen boy baby dolls, and rag dolls, but none that actually look like a little boy. The closest I can find is the 'Bitty Twins' boy doll by American Girl, which looks perfect (here!) - but these are £££, only available in the US and you need to buy both twins! I've found them on Ebay but the shipping costs are enormous!

I don't understand how there can be such a gap in the market - surely my DS isn't the only 3 year old boy who likes playing with dolls? It makes me a bit sad that the doll market seems to be entirely geared towards girls!

Can anyone help?

Yikes purplepidjin, that's one of the Chuckie ones! I think I'd be a bit nervous with that in the house... and it's almost as big as DS!

Thanks hellymelly - we actually already have him, well DD does (has had him since she was a baby) - he's called Baby Sid in our house after Sid on CBeebies! We love him, but I'm looking more for a little boy doll.

hellymelly · 02/04/2011 22:40

Changechangechangeagain · 02/04/2011 22:40

Maybe this one?

Tikkabillajive · 02/04/2011 22:47

Yes he (well, the blonde one as DS is blonde) would be perfect Helly but OUCH at spending £100 on a doll! I like this one too - he's probably the closest boy equivalent of the Moulin Roty dolls my dd has - just 3x the cost!

Change yes I am going to think more about that one - I couldn't see the one with boy bits though, just this one? DS would like one with a willy, I'm sure. Grin

Ok. Try hope education- European boy doll. The prices are without vat.

DirtyMartini · 02/04/2011 22:52

Ooh, I like helly's. The one called Jakob in the same range is a lot like ds. I just showed DP though and he was creeped out by the realism.

Changechangechangeagain · 02/04/2011 22:53

Tne hope ones come naked but have bits. I thought tts did one with bits as well but maybe not

hellymelly · 02/04/2011 22:56

My DD really really wants the Bobo one, like Jakob he is blonde. The clothes are amazing, and the shoes....

purplepidjin · 02/04/2011 22:58

Oops, sorry TikkaBilla! I wasn't concentrating on the thread, just "saw it and thought of you"!

Do any of you doll snobs experts know where I can get cheap used baby dolls?

Tikkabillajive · 02/04/2011 23:00

I found him Change: www.hope-education.co.uk/primary-school-supplies/role-play/dolls-and-accessories/european-boy-doll/ Can't really see if he has a nice face in the pic though. Might look and see if they have any of these at ds's preschool this week. Thanks for the link Smile.

Helly yes I like Bobo too, he has a sweet face.

I think it's probably high time I stopped looking at dolls for the evening - thanks though everyone!
