I have been looking at how at 13 months children are supposed to be encouraged to do imaginative play. My daughter loves animals so I thought about getting some plastic animals. I have looked online but the only ones suitable are little people fisher price and that is so expensive considering when I have seen online some sets of animals alot cheaper but the age is three + surely they are not that small? Anyone had experince at buying these I do not want to buy something that is a choking hazard or is it the paint they use on them?

I think my DDs mostly came from ELC

Were they suggested for 3+ though as I really think that they should be ok for younger as long as I select larger animals.

I can't remember exactly. In reality a lot of children are OK with toys marked 3+ when they are somewhat younger - you know whether they are likely to try to eat them.

How about something like Duplo animals - farm/circus sets? Big, chunky and indestructible!

I bought some second hand, and they weren't cheap, but they still play with tham @ 5 and 7, so worth the money Smile

i would give the little people animals to under 3, I've got some for ds and there's no danger I can see, one piece plastic things. Maybe the paint might come off?

anyway I'll be letting dd play with them as soon as she shows an interest.

The ELC Happyland stuff is brilliant from approx this age onwards - they do a farm set, zoo set etc and I think you can just buy a little tub of animals. Great to add to later - we have tons of the stuff and my two are only just growing out of it at 3 and nearly 6.

I noticed they had some Happyland for half price in ELC the other day too.
