My daughter is in the pink, princess phase (sigh!). I'd love to get her a nice pretty girly book set (balk - not about me, it's about her mantra). Any suggestions of nice (inexpensive) sets?

Not sure if its what you're looking for but I got my DD a Disney Princess set with readalong CD in Matalan the other day - bargain £10.

How about the Angelina Ballerina books? They're girlie but not sickly, and the illustrations are gorgeous. They're pretty cheap on Amazon marketplace

Beatrix Potter is lovely for everyone. The Brambly Hedge series by Jill Barklem is very attractive and the stories are sweet and definitely more 'pink' than 'blue'.

lettice rabbit is gorgeous for this age - lovely pictures, glitter on all the pages, not too sickly - also Princess Poppy is quite sweet.

The Eloise books by Kay Thompson are quite appealing. Eloise lives in a penthouse on the top floor of the Plaza Hotel in New York -- very escapist Xmas Smile.

Also the Madeline books by Ludwig Bemelmans -- though Madeline is not very 'girly', she lives in a world of girls and the books are definitely aimed at a girl audience.
