what's best: trike or bike for a 2 year old?

Ds will be 2 in October and we would like to buy him either a metal trike with pneumatic tyres or small bike with stabilisers. I am not sure what's best as most bikes start at age 3.

He is tall for his age so I think he would easily fit on a bike. I like this one as it has lots of features and is from 2-4. Or is a trike easier & better to use? Any advice would be great, thank you x

I like both (we have both), you will get more use out of the Raleigh bike in the long run. It is perfect for him to learn without stabs when he is 4-6yo. just make sure he's big enough to reach the pedals now.

i,ve had the same problem my boys brthdays are at the end of the month one will be 2 and the other will be 3. i've bought 12" bikes with stabilisers for them as they has a go in toys r us and had no problem using them.

do you have a toys r us/ halfords or a local bike shop that will allow you to try him on one before you decide??

i would go for a balance bike, not a bike with stabilisers.
DD1 had a bike with stabilisers and she is now having to unlearn riding a bike to ride without.
DD2 had a balance bike and is riding easily,

there's loads of advice/research on this and it is all consistent.

Thanks everyone, it looks like a bike is the winner.

Will take him to ToysRus and let him have a go on the bikes so we can check on size:) I do like the balance bikes that's why I thought the Raleigh was a good option since he can use it without paddles, so it's just like a balance bike to start with :)
