Scooter with no brake is this unsafe?

Basically my DS got a scooter for his 3rd birthday last year, it's the Ozbozz my 1st scooter which starts with 4 wheels then down to 3 and finally onto 2, he really does love it and uses it as a 3 wheeler which I have no problem with as he is only 4. He tends to go pretty fast on it and recently a neighbour pointed out that as it has no brake it may be time to upgrade.

Whilst I do see her point and it has made me think a lot about it, the problem is that DS absolutely adores his little scoooter but I am now worried that he may fly off one of these days because he has to put his foot down to stop!

I was thinking about getting him a new scooter for xmas as he will be 4.5 by then but I am pretty sure he will be gutted getting rid of his old one and there is also the age old question of 2 or 3 wheels and whether or not the cheaper ones are just as good.

We don't have a lot of money but as he loves scooting so much I thought about getting a maxi micro scooter 2nd hand (hopefully) rather than buying a £20 effort from Argos but if these are just as good then is there really any point spending the extra?

Sorry I am wittering on about scooters of all things but I'm just worried I'm sending DS out on an accident waiting to happen. :o

Yeah, they fall off a lot Grin.
I would want some kind of brake, tbh.
Although DS uses his shoe to drag on the backwheel of one of our scooters -- not good for shoe soles, obviously.
I won't even get a balance bike because so few come with brakes.

my DD has one with a brake, she falls off more when she uses the brake than when she uses her foot!

the mini/maxi micros are v good btw and if you do get a new one are worth the extra imo...
