Can someone with powers/skills beyond mine tell me what they see or feel from this chair please? It's very old.

How old is the upholstery? I'm guessing plenty of people would've sat on it. Probably people with a bit of money as it looks quite posh.

Salvadoridory · 18/01/2026 14:00

Something F. I thought floss or fro but thats ridiculous.

I don't know how old, it was bought 35 years ago as an antique so I'm guessing pretty old! I'm not sure if it's ever been recovered.

I did imagine a woman sitting on it. Not sure why.

I imagine the upholstery to be different, maybe in a darker pattern or brocade fabric. I think just because I've seen other chairs like that with that.

But yeah, a lady of about 45-55, wearing late Victorian clothing. I'm not psychic I don't think btw!

MadamCholetsbonnet · 18/01/2026 15:14

It was regularly used by a woman who was deeply religious.

Nerdynerdynerd · 18/01/2026 15:17

Anyone know if good bad or neutral vibes?

Allisgoodtoday · 18/01/2026 15:36

I'm no psychic or anything, but I often get an "intuition" about things (don't know how best to describe it) which is pretty much always right.

Looking at the photo of the chair, there are no bad vibes here. It's a lovely chair, I'm getting a sense of calmness, something gentle, a quietness....all good. Possibly something to do with a past owner or where the chair came from, can't tell. But nothing bad.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/01/2026 15:41

Wow, I sold my set a few years ago look identical!

We had a set too, same colour. Ours were cheap repro, not antique.

silverbirches · 18/01/2026 16:19

I dunno. I just stared at the photo for a bit, and I think it has been used as a nursing chair at some point in its life.

I thought that too.

I also get a military vibe - a man in a uniform.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/01/2026 17:29

Unused chair in a bunglalow dining room, rattan furniture in the conservatory, yellow paint on the walls, huge darkwood unit with the best china (unused since receiving it as a wedding present) and silverware sitting in it with Lladro figurines on the side shelves.

TFImBackIn · 18/01/2026 17:32

I don't think it's an antique - it's reproduction.

This was exactly where my mind went, but maybe a slightly older lady.

silverbirches · 18/01/2026 17:43

I'm with a pp who says it's a more modern reproduction, I don't think it is as early as Victorian.

ChurchWindows · 18/01/2026 17:50

A chair that has rarely been sat in. It's spent 30 years in the corner of a bedroom alongside an old chest of drawers on top of which was a ticking clock that has sounded out the hours all that time. It was there when the room was full of children opening Christmas stockings, then years later the lady of the house put her quilted dressing gown over it when she bought tea to her husband in bed. Some one sat in it to visit someone ill in bed.

Now the couple aren't there. The chair sits there in a quiet house. Just the clock ticking.

It gives me a sense of dread.
I see a face in the button back.

LookingThroughGlass · 18/01/2026 17:51

The back seat cushion looks like a skull.

Momento mori chair.

dicentra365 · 18/01/2026 17:54

My feeling is that it is not that old, or has certainly been re-upholstered.

Wellfuckme · 18/01/2026 18:00

1980's replica chair. Nothing extraordinary about it. Chairs do not contain the essence of a person who may have once sat on it.

Chances are you have a repressed memory of something happening in your early life, with a item which is similar looking which is why you feel you are picking up on something.

Eyesopenwideawake · 18/01/2026 18:03

I've got some almost the same – inherited from my step grandfather who used to work in a furniture store in Morpeth in the 60's-80's.
