Real life Paranormal experiences

Spooky season is nearly upon us so lets get a new thread going of real life paranormal experiences!

I'll start with one that happened to my parents. My great aunt died in 1999. Prior to her death she gave my dad an old family clock that you wind up - it was originally a wedding present for my great grandparents. I had chronic insomnia as a child and couldn't stand ot chiming. So my parents let it go flat and stored it on the top of their wardrobe and it stayed silent for many years.

Anyway, on the night my great auntie died, mum and dad were lying in bed and it started chiming on its own from the top of the wardrobe. My parents are very non woo and cannot explain it.

As a sceptic I always try hard to think of logical/rational explanations for anything ghostly but this is a tricky one. What did your mum say when you told her .

CleverCatty · 08/01/2021 16:58

Actually - this happened to my nana - she lived for years on a famous street in SW London (not posh or anything!) - it had a market there too. She also had her own business there but wound this down in recent years.

She had two houses with her then DH (but they were separated and lived separately, one in each house) - she rented rooms out to lodgers on the second and third floor of her house but not his.

Anyway, there was an old man who lodged with her - a Mr XXXX. He sadly recently died when he lodged with her. Most of her lodgers were lovely and funnily enough this man was always friendly to my DM and I and gave me a child's bracelet when I was about 8.

I recall her saying to my DM when she visited - 'oh it's strange, I saw Mr XXXX in the street going into the Dairy today (this was in the days when you had a dairy) on the corner - I waved to him as I passed him and he saw me but he didn't wave back, wonder why?'

DM replied to my nana - 'Mum, Mr XXXX died about 3 weeks ago, don't you remember?'

Apparently nana went white and muttered something about oh she must've been mistaken, my mum was sure she had seen him though.

My mum didn’t seem bothered either way!

Crazycatgirl08 · 08/01/2021 17:59

Along similar lines as the above, I grew up in a new build so not an obvious place to be haunted.

When my sister was very little my mum was with her in the kitchen and asked me to go and grab a towel from upstairs. I did and as I came back down I looked behind me and at the top of the stairs there was a tall man with black eyes and grey hair wearing a long white jacket (only way I can describe it is like a mad scientist) he looked really threatening. I ran and got my mum and told her there was someone at the top of the stairs but by the time she got there no one was there.

As I grew up I could still remember exactly what I had seen but put it down to my over imaginative imagination as a child.

Then a few years ago I was in the car with my sister (she was a baby when I saw the man so wouldn’t have any memory/influence from this) and I was intrigued so I asked her if she had ever seen anything like a ghost when we lived in our old house. To my surprise she said she had and went on to explain that she had been in my parents room one day when she was young playing on the bed. She looked up from the bed to the landing and saw what looked like an old man with grey hair and a long white coat staring at her.

As soon as my sister told me that I got incredibly freaked out as it meant we had both seen the same vision at different times.

I later told my mum about it and she also said that there had been several times when she had heard someone walking around upstairs when we were at school and she was at home alone. She thinks it might of been the spirit my great grandad who died when I was young.

CountessFrog · 08/01/2021 22:27

It’s a bit like my great gran, that.

Out of interest, do you remember him being a bit tall and thin? Sort of strangely straight, stretched even?

That’s what I picture.

coldcoffeefy · 08/01/2021 22:52

When I had my eldest I lived in a flat, it always had a weird vibe to it but I had never seen anything. One day I put DD in her room to sleep, she was about 6 months old and still in a cot, no way she could’ve got out her bed. I went downstairs and I could hear footsteps upstairs, I ran upstairs convinced someone had broke in but there was no windows open/broken etc. Went into DD’s room and her teddies were all thrown across the floor and DD was screaming, she had scratches all over her back even though she was in a sleepsuit and couldn’t have reached it. I’m not sure what the explanation was, all windows and doors were closed

noblegreenk · 08/01/2021 22:53

I have another clock one...my mum passed away in a hospice just after 7am. When we went home that day we noticed her bedside alarm clock had stopped at 7.02. I class myself as a sceptic but that was a bit freaky.

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 23:03

Couldn't find my hairbrush anywhere.

And I mean for days.

One day I said out loud in frustration "this isn't funny now whoever has my hairbrush just give it back"

I only live with my ds.

When I went to the bathroom half hour later it was just sat there in the middle of the hallway. Ds had been in lounge with me the whole time.

Picked it up and put it where it belongs and went to bathroom.

Came back to lounge and told ds i'd found my hairbrush and where and he asked who had put it there. I replied something about believing it was a ghost but who knows if they actually exist.

As I said this we heard a funny sound from the kitchen. A small clipboard that was on the side had snapped in 2 and half of it was on the floor.

I laughed and said "perhaps they do"

Nothing happened after that!

CarrieMoonbeams · 11/01/2021 12:17

My nephew was killed by a drunk driver when he was in his mid-20s. We were all absolutely devastated. He had longed to be a dad, and his fiancée was due their first baby.

I have a beautiful framed photo of the 2 of them together holding a photo of the first scan. They just look so young and happy and excited for the future.

One day, I decided that the photo was just too upsetting, so I placed it in a drawer.

Well....! Really odd things started to happen. Things disappearing and then turning up again in random places, lights on in the kitchen overnight when I know for a fact that I'd switched them off, etc. Nothing scary as such, more mischievous. A friend of mine who is more woo than I am told me to put the photo back and talk to it.

I was a bit unsure, but did it and it worked! No more incidents, and although I've moved house twice since then, I make sure that photo is always up.

I miss him dreadfully but his son is a fine young man now, and we all make sure he knows what a lovely man his dad was.

CountessFrog · 11/01/2021 12:45

That’s funny, I had a mischievous aunty who died when I was a child. I’m pretty sure she’s fine a few mischievous things like that.

Most notably I used to wear a pair of pearl studs for work every day. Never wore them to bed because they used to dig into my neck when I lay on a pillow. I always placed them on a particular chest of drawers at night.

One morning I couldnt find them anywhere, was quite frustrated but had to get ready for work so went for a shower. When I cam Babb into the bedroom, they were on the chest, and they were perfectly lined up parallel to each other (I was not in the habit of doing that).

She had passed away twenty years earlier, but I immediately suspected her, smiled and realised it was April 1st.

HippoNamedBooBooButt · 11/01/2021 13:58

When I was in my early 20s I was told by someone I knew that he could see people's Guardian Angels. He said he could see mine as we were speaking. Being sceptical, I told him to describe mine to me.
He told me he was male, dressed in black, and that he was tall but not tall, and black skinned but white. I thought, 'what a load of nonsense', and later that day told my Mum what he had said. She went white and said 'That's my Grandad'. Apparently he was a coal miner, so his clothes were always black. He was tall but years in the mines had made him stoop so he looked much smaller, and his skin was always black when he came home from work, but he was white skinned. I've never been able to explain that, as it was quite a description!

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 13/01/2021 09:12

I’ve never been 100% sure as I’ve not seen anything myself but it’s a subject that fascinates me as I know friends who tell me things which are totally unexplained. I only have one story which I’ve told on here before and its really freaky – I’ll try and keep it brief. My sister and family live in an almost 300 year old terraced cottage in a row of similar and when my nephew was 16 he told me he’d seen an old lady walking up the stairs a couple of times but she always disappears, he was in no doubt they had a ghost although my sister was too scared to discuss it. My niece also said one evening when she was on her own in the house she saw a reflection of someone in her switched off tv walking up the stairs (her door was open) and assumed someone had come home, she checked, nobody there. My sister has also seen things and felt someone move behind her when in the kitchen but she refuses to be drawn into talking about it in detail as she doesn’t want to acknowledge that it’s real.
Fast forward to about 8 years ago, kids now married and moved out. I popped into my sister’s house to pick something up one afternoon and had a friend of mine from the stables with me, friend and my sister had never met – my sister isn’t remotely horsey and I’d never discussed anything about my sister/her house, with my stables friend. I went into the kitchen to sample what my sister had been cooking while friend stayed in their lounge which is just off the kitchen and when I went back in to join her I asked where my sister was, she said she’d gone into the garage to pick up what I was collecting and then added “does your gran live here with them?” I said no and she then asked “Oh, is it her husband’s gran then?”. When I asked who she was talking about she said “that lady who just went up the stairs”! I was gobsmacked and my sister covered her ears when she came back in because it freaks her out but my friend said an old lady walked across the lounge so she said hello to her (got no response obviously) and carried on up the stairs. To this day she half thinks me and my sister were having her on. As for who she is, to me it sounds like it’s a kind of recording, she isn’t consciously walking up the stairs its like a PP said about the lady and the wash basket, something that is probably stuck in the surroundings that we can somehow see? Not sure but that’s what I think. Loving these stories.

Oh another strange one - the house phone rang at the exact time my great uncle apparently died - that a great uncle (uncle to DM) died - my DM was very close to him and visited him to nurse him as he was dying of cancer. She was his favourite niece and was named very favourably in his will.

Wotapolava · 02/02/2021 18:18

The most recent encounter I had was last week.
I was led on my bed watching TV when in my vision I saw a clear outline of a person standing next to my TV.
It was daytime and I just ignored it as things like that don't bother me as my Mum's presence is usually around somewhere. I can smell her perfume really strongly some days.

Then, a day later, I was led on my bed and I felt somebody gently prod me in the side.

Very odd!

Actually, mentioning my Mum, I walk past what was her bungalow when taking my son to school. On one particular occasion, it was my ex (deceased) partners birthday. I had been feeling quite low. As I approached my mum's old road, I noticed a huge vivid rainbow over it.
My parents were the last people my ex spoke to before he died.

True!

There is another part of this story I will put up at a later point.

Symphony830 · 02/02/2021 22:07

I have briefly noted about my experiences on another thread about my active work premises, but putting this here as an isolated incident at home.

About 15yrs ago I came home, trundled up the stairs and sat down at the top. Unsure why as the lounge must be 3 metres away and I’ve not done it before or since.

I saw a large ball. Not your stereotypical light-ball orb. This one was a ball of glittering stars that came down the corridor approx 8’ in the air in my direction. Whilst this was happening by cat sauntered past completely unaffected by either the ball or my presence. I often think about it. Was it an hallucination? This was during the day. Whatever it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

I wish it would come back, I’ve always said that if it happens again I will know it’s real.

Someone mentioned once it could have been ball lightening .....

Love hearing of people’s experiences

SpudsandGravy · 07/02/2021 17:51

In relation to the last account, I've never seen anything like that. However, 3 years ago my father was dying in a hospice, and my sister and I spent the week there 24/7 with him in his room.

Because we've both always been interested in the paranormal we asked the night staff whether they had ever experienced anything strange, working with dying people in a hospice. They told us a number of stories, but one of them involved having seen a shining sphere of some kind - like a ball - floating down a corridor and entering the room of a person who died shortly afterwards. I've read a couple of people describing having seen something similar, and so the last posting caught my attention.

VegCheeseandCrackers · 12/05/2021 19:16

I honestly have so many freaky stories but one of my favs- so my best friend is a really close family friend, my mum is her godmother. She has three kids. My sister died young three years ago. Mum was bringing friend and kids their Christmas presents the year after my sis died. Friends son (he was about 6 or 7) was talking to friends mum (his granny)some days later and asked why my mum is so sad. She explained because my sis died which he already knew of course as he knew her. He said 'but granny she was here with her the other day. I saw her right beside her.'
I love these kinds of threads.

Giggorata · 12/05/2021 20:15

CaMePlaitPas, I had this too, right up until I left home at 16.
I was terrified of it when I was young, but on reflection, didn’t get any particularly bad feeling from it.

I have since heard of other people who had similar dark figures at the foot of their beds. I would like to know more about what seems to be a fairly common experience.
