We bought a house with a history. Basically the previous owner killed herself by hanging herself from a tree in the garden after many decades of mental illness (mostly depression it seems).
The house was in a state of some disrepair. [understatement]
When we bought it the villagers didn't obviously march up to us and tell us what had happened - particularly as the next door neighbour found the body. But over the course of a few years it has come out.
Now I am not of the 'woo' persuasion and nor is my partner (who doesn't live with me). But we're a bit spooked tbh.
Our third floor is our spare room, no-one wants to go up there. No-one WILL go up there because you are made to feel bloody uncomfortable up there. We have had a child visiting who knew nothing of the history of the house who came back down after exploring saying 'the lady doesn't want me to be up there'. My children won't go up there alone and in fact don't go up there at all if they can help it.
My partner and I were getting ahem romantic up there last year and we both stopped and I burst into tears and neither of us could work out why we felt so sad and uncomfortable.
The problem is if I even go up there to clean I get so utterly sad within minutes, I have to leave the room and I have to leave the house to get happy again.
The dog won't go up there either and growls at the stairs to the top floor.
Other than board the door up and forget it exists what can I do??
I'm a SAHM and every day I'm at home most of the day and sometimes it's like a fog of sadness in the house, I literally feel it fall over me and I have to go take the dog for a walk.
I'm NOT depressed. I'm actually really happy with my life, but the house makes me sad. I don't want to move because it's a great house. But I need to do something.
Are there any woo types out there who could advise?
