If you've had premonitions about something that we're not good, did you avoid doing something or going to a certain place? I have something I'm concerned about and I just wondered.

I have had the odd gut feeling about things, is that what you mean?

sanfairyanne · 03/03/2015 20:02

does it happen often? if so, i would go to the gp

Batmansunderpants · 03/03/2015 20:05

Lottie, it would depend if this has happened before. If it involves only you I would trust your instincts. If about others you know maybe test the waters. If a far off thing you have no control over I don't think you can do much.

Unfortunately there is not certainty in this and very much personal experience.

lottieandmias · 03/03/2015 21:21

It's not me - it's a relative. Some months ago they had a vision about the Eiffel Tower (not positive) They have had these visions all their life and it's like watching a video. At the time they did not know they would be visiting the Eiffel Tower next month.

I'm just wondering if this sort of thing would concern you? Can't say too much on here because don't want to out myself.

It would rather depend on the 'vision' wouldn't it?

If they visualised throwing themselves off the top, they might get there and be tempted to do it, so might want to steer clear.

If they think the thing is likely to collapse/be blown up, they'd be daft not to go, as such a thing happening is rather unlikely, and premonitions are not verifiable scientifically proven things.

I'd put money on everything being fine and dandy at the Eiffel Tower next month, no matter how many millions of people the world over find it featuring in their (day)dreams.

sanfairyanne · 04/03/2015 08:45

if they have had these visions a lot, i would be worried about epilepsy, for example. a gp.visit would be a good idea

CocktailQueen · 04/03/2015 08:48

There's pretty good security at the Eiffel Tower ime... and you can't throw yourself off the top, either!

I dunno - do their visions often come true?

thehumanjam · 04/03/2015 08:58

I'm not totally dismissive about premoninitions however I think it's likely that the dream about the Eiffel Tower is just a dream based on her anxiety regarding the world security situation.

It's quite possible that the Eiffel Tower will be attacked but that doesn't mean that your friend has a sixth sense. Years ago Osama Bin Laden named it as one of their potential targets along with Big Ben, Houses of Parliment etc.

It's very unlikely that it would be targeted when your friend visits, security is very high in Paris at the moment. I'm always dreaming about these types of things, when I was a child I dreamt about nuclear war. It's anxiety driven.

lottieandmias · 04/03/2015 09:21

It wasn't a dream though.

I would be advising the person to consult their GP. Intrusive thoughts etc.

TheMoa · 04/03/2015 09:44

Dream or not, premonitions are not a real 'thing'.

Nobody has ever managed to convince science of the validity of premonitions, and really, you'd think it would be an easy enough thing to prove.

If your friend really thinks they've had a premonition, I'd suggest medical help - and perhaps post the premonition here so that we can all say 'I told you so' when nothing happens, or bear witness if this happens to be the world's first verifiable proven premonition Grin

lottieandmias · 04/03/2015 11:05

I know some people don't believe in premonitions - I am asking those that have them, not those who think they should go to the doctor. But thanks for your concern.

OP posts:
lottieandmias · 04/03/2015 11:06

I've read a lot in the past on here about people who say they've had premonitions that's all.

OP posts:
Showy · 04/03/2015 11:15

People don't have premonitions. They have coincidences. Sometimes the preceding 'vision' is a blip or a quirk, sometimes it's symptomatic of a larger problem.

If somebody is having intrusive thoughts that are affecting their decision making processes and having a knock on effect on their life, then the GP is the right course of action.

lottieandmias · 04/03/2015 11:16

Ok, if anyone has any experience of what I've asked about, feel free to PM me.

OP posts:
TheMoa · 04/03/2015 11:36

Honestly OP, no one is going to have experience of 'premonitions' unless they have the same issues as your friend, who is either deluded, unwell, or a raging attention seeker.

Fear not, the Eiffel Tower will endure.

Millionsmom · 04/03/2015 11:46

lot tie, I've PMd you.
Smile

WhatsGoingOnEh · 02/05/2016 14:40

I just found this thread and wondered if the OP could update? Did your relative visit the Eiffel Tower last month? Was everything ok?

If I'd had a premonition, I'd trust it and change my plans! :)

CallMeMousie · 02/05/2016 14:44

Yes definitely. And the premonition was proven right by that shocking event which happened at the Eiffel Tower in April last year. Spoooooooky.

LovelyLungtch · 02/05/2016 14:46

This thread is a year old.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 02/05/2016 14:49

I didn't notice it was 2015 Blush but lol Callmemousie. :)

Flufflepuff · 02/05/2016 14:50

I've always wanted to ask someone this when they restart a zombie thread - how did you come across it What?!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 06/05/2016 16:30

:) No big mystery -- I recently discovered the AMAZING "Unexplained" topic and was just systematically trawling through every thread. :)
