I would love to hear the scientific explanations for them

OrangeyTulips · 25/08/2014 21:57

Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand.
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

W. B. Yeats

I've have a friend who is, what I guess you would call psychic -all manner of strange stuff happened when she was around that unless you where there you wouldn't believe - taps turning on by themselves, radios and tvs turning on without being touched and perhaps the spookiest a jukebox turning on a pub whilst it wasn't plugged in and then churned out ice - so I've always believed that there is something more than just the end. But this is really by way of background.

Anyway my story of ultimate eerie happened about 14 years ago. I went to stop at a new friends home as we were on a course for work locally so it made sense to stop at her parents. My friend had an older sister who had had complex physical disabilities and had sadly passed away some years before. What was her older sisters bedroom was then the spare room I which I stayed.

Initially I struggled to get to sleep but eventually dropped off. But in the night I woke up and realised I was frozen but moving - I was being sat up in bed as if by some invisible force, I didn't want to be but I couldn't stop it. Then my arm was moved to an outstretched position and my hand made a fist with my thumb lifted up. I tried to change position but I couldn't.

Now I could have put all that down to a dream or just still being asleep but what happened next I can't explain and I know I was wide awake.

There was a really strong tingling in my outstretched hand and then a blue spark leapt from the top of my thumb to my fist. It was strong and i could clearly see it and it felt like an strong electric shock (and it bloody hurt) This happened about 10 times - slowly at first and then very rapidly and about 10 times in total and then it suddenly just stopped - I could move again and I hid under the covers for the rest of the night cowering.

I have never had any experience of this before or since and tbh it shook me up no end.

Remembered another one from a few years ago. DH left home early one morning (around 3am) to go to a meeting that was several hours drive away. He was driving along a dual carriageway that was surrounded by farmland, and spotted something in the road ahead. As he got closer, he could see it hunched over, like it was picking up something in the road. As it turned and looked at the car, its eyes glowed orange. It sort of stood up, like half stooped, and DH said it could easily have been 7 or 8 ft tall, glared at the car with real malice, like it had been disturbed, and loped off into the hedge on the side of the road.

Now I have to say DH is the most non-woo person ever, but even he can't find a rational explanation for this. He was quite rattled!

FrankSpencer · 25/08/2014 23:20

What the bleedin 'eck!?! Shock

scandip · 26/08/2014 01:27

Thankyou for explaining elementals expat. I am really interested in folklore. Have you read The White People by Arthur Machen? Purely fictional, but seems to call on those ancient beliefs. It's very scary.

Orangeytulips, what a wonderful eerie poem!

OrangeyTulips · 26/08/2014 06:53

scandip, it's from ' The Stolen Child'. In Ireland it was believed that faeries stole little boys and left changeling children in their place. Very young boys were sometimes dressed as girls to fool the faeries.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 26/08/2014 09:44

One from dh and FiL (they are both woo and have millions of stories). There is a roundabout near me, and every time he passes dh says he can see a little girl sat on a bank. Fil used to drive past it often in a white van, and said he often saw a little girl sat in the seat nearest the window, out of the corner of his eye.

This had apparently happened to both of them separately as FiL tried to discourage DHs woo by claiming for years he had no idea what he was talking about. One day FiL was giving DH a lift somewhere and drove across the roundabout. They both heard, from the middle seat "that's my seat"

Something very odd happened to me on holiday in the UK a few weeks ago.

We were at a play farm type place. DD was off playing, I was sat on a picnic bench with DS (3 months then) on my lap just staring out at the farmland that had a path which came towards the picnic benches before veering off to go around them.

I was just looking around, very chilled out when I glanced towards the path and coming towards me was a lady pushing her buggy. My eyes just locked on her, my head started buzzing, my whole body got a rush of adrenaline, I couldn't move and everything else except this lady went fuzzy. The words 'how did I get over there' were running through my mind without actually thinking them over and over again as I was seeing ME walking towards me! I had this weird sensation that I wasn't in my body and it wasn't momentary, like a split second. Felt like half a minute. All the while my mind was screaming 'how did I get over there!'

All suddenly returned to normal. Can't explain it ! Never happened before of since.

scandip · 26/08/2014 12:12

I love the stories of changelings Orangeytulips. It's funny how the fairies were once seen as quite sinister but changed in our culture to be seen as tiny harmless creatures.

scandip · 26/08/2014 12:15

Bacon, how weird! Sounds like you very momentarily astrally projected

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 26/08/2014 21:16

That is weird.

my pil were in Hong Kong on holiday. Mil is scatty at the best of times and stepped out in front of a car at a traffic lights. She was pulled sharply back and when she looked around a smiling woman behind her disappeared before her eyes.
Fil saw the woman at the same time and saw her disappear too. He announced 'where's she gone?' to Mil and then, ever the rationalist, announced 'that didn't happen' but apparently he was completely freaked out.

helensburgh · 26/08/2014 23:17

My DH was driving and stopped to give way.at the side of the road a young guy was standing as if to cross the road.

He smiled and waved at DH, DH thought , goodness there's jack, havnt seen hiformyears as he drove off , then a split second realised why he'd died a few years before.

He is sure it was him.

Pandora37 · 26/08/2014 23:35

When I was 10 I was walking home from school one day, down a path and I could see my bedroom window from there. As I was getting closer I could see someone waving to me from my window and assuming it was my mum I started waving back. As I got closer though I could see that this person wasn't my mum as she had blonde hair (my mum's a brunette) and she was in a white dress. She also looked quite young, like a teenager. This girl was really beaming at me and waving and then I couldn't see her any more.

When I got into the house I asked my mum if she'd been waving at me from my window. She said she had been in my room briefly but hadn't been near the window or waved at me. I then began to think maybe it was my mum I saw but why would I think she was waving at me and had blonde hair and was dressed in white? My mum once saw a little girl running across the end of her bed, with blonde hair in a white dress. She said she looked about 6, and it was several years before I saw the girl in my window. My grandad also saw someone in white when he stayed at our house but he didn't look long enough to see what they looked like. But apart from those incidences, it's never happened again. I do wonder if I was imagining it now but who knows.

Dirtypaws · 27/08/2014 22:38

Years ago, was living with a dick exp. we were in the throes of splitting up. I had gone home to visit dm for the weekend. I had a phone call from him asking if I was alright. I said of course. He told me he had seen me sitting in my normal chair wearing my dressing gown. I was obviously not there. I didnt think tooooo much of it.

A few days later, I had a call from my dsis asking if I was ok. Now, me and my dsis have never got on and we weren't in the habit of calling each other AT ALL. I was fine! She told me that that she had had a dream that I'd died and she had opened a locker with my body in it, wrapped in plastic. I was then proper freaked out.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 27/08/2014 22:46

Freaky, still alive though? Your ghost isn't typing this? Grin

Dirtypaws · 28/08/2014 12:14

Yeah still here! 'twas very freaky.

JennyCalendar · 28/08/2014 17:48

I have a few. My favourite is one my Dad used to tell me from when he was a boy.

It was Boxing Day one snowy winter. All of my dad's family were in the sitting room post-meal. There was a loud knock at the front door.

My grandad went to answer it and there was an old man he didn't recognise on the door step. The man said something along the lines of 'I've come to wish you and your family blessings for the new year'. They carried on a short conversation (my dad and the rest of the family could hear this in the next door room).

He stuck out his hand to shake Grandad's hand, but when Grandad went to take it, he only grasped air. The man had vanished.

At his shocked cry, other family members came to the door, whereupon they noticed that there were no footprints in the snow leading up to the door.

I lost my darling grandfather a week before Christmas in 2002 when I was heavily pregnant with DD. We had a service in the grounds of the church on Dec 23rd where his ashes were interred.

The weather was cold and damp and miserable, how we were all feeling I suppose. Out of nowhere the biggest, fattest bumble bee appeared and flew around us all, landing on my arm and on others in our little group. It was the last thing we expected to see in the cold depths of winter.

All I could think of was it was my darling grandpa coming to let us know he was ok. We all said it, it was very comforting, whenever I see a bee bumbling around me now I always say 'hello grandpa'

Teddybeau1988 · 28/08/2014 21:01

Does anyone have sort of premonition dreams? It could be a random coincidence but years ago I had a dream about a child inflating a baby with a pump in its foot.I said 'he'll go bang'

Last month DS was in his baby bouncer and DD was playing with a bicycle pump DH had left out. She was pushing the air onto his toes and I said ' stop it or he'll go bang'. As soon as I said it I remembered the dream. There's a few other things similar.
