Pony Club dress rules

GD had her ears pierced on Saturday. She was going to have them done first day of the school holidays but we brought it forward so she could take them out in time for Pony Club camp.

I should really have thought about yesterday's rally and tried to find a time during this week, but it was difficult. I rang the rally organiser to discuss it a couple of times but couldn't get hold of her

We went to the rally hoping it would be ok (spent ages getting pony, tack and child gleaming) and suggested that as long as she didn't wear her hairnet (they don't all wear them) there was little risk.

The instructor wasn't unkind, but said it's not just about safety, it's about rules being rules, so we loaded up again and came home.

At the time I just took it on the chin, and blamed myself, but now I do think it was a bit petty. What do you think? Should I stop her riding until she can take the studs out? Or is it just a Pony Club thing?

On the plus side, it was very hot at the rally, no shade on the field, very hard ground and lots of jumping so her pony, who's getting on a bit, might well have gone lame when we're planning for a show in 2 weeks. (that's how we consoled GD anyway)

I think that it's fair enough - it's so easy to catch an earring on manes or clothing, even without falling, and ripping through your earlobe is permanently scarring, so just not worth the risk

Disappointing for your GD though.

We were allowed studs in. Maybe it is a branch thing?

I thought studs with tape over would be ok, but not so. Still, she'll be ok for camp, we had a nice ride when we got back, she's handled the disappointment well, and Ben loaded beautifully and behaved well so it wasn't a complete waste, and his socks are gleaming white still!

It is a Pony Club rule (VIII) that you cannot ride at a Pony Club event unless you have any ear rings or sleepers removed. It says this is because sleepers can cause injury in event of a fall because "there are vunerable blood vessels behind the ear and if the facial nerve is pierced partial paralysis of the face can occur".

The only jewellery allowed is a wristwatch, wedding ring or a stock pin.

earings are not allowed.

Our PC is quite strict on dress code. I have boys so not so bad with jewellery, hair nets etc.

They are also stict on bling on ponies... just not all allowed at all.

I did stuff up really. I should have organised it better. Never mind, there's always next time
