Horses can go into a sort of trance state, similar to the way rabbits do, when put down and on their backs like that.

I thought I was dirty minded when I thought it looked wrong. Obviously I'm not the only one.

I was filtering out the dirty minded bit, then it's quite sweet. Hasn't anyone else ever wanted to go sit on a rolling/ lying down horse?

It just looks scary from the vulnerability of the horse point of view, like a dominance thing - feels negative to say that, but people do that kind of thing, even under 'natural horsemanship' type banners

I have snugged barney in the stable when he was rolling but not in a rude or dominating way

As a long-time NH student, I'll just say that not many would roll the horse over and sit on it like that. That is what induces the helpless state, and it's not good for the horse. Asking a well trained horse to lay down on cue as they would normally is rather different I think. (Not that I've ever bothered to do it, but I can snuggle with mine in the field when they're laying down anyway).
Apart from all of that, it do think it looks rude.

In a way I would like that! Not in an impure way. Also not in a 'he weighs 600kg way', if he was about my weight (probably is about 600kg )

Also if he had velvety paws instead of hooves.

(although he does have really nice feet)
