livery yards in suffolk anyone?

WE are moving to suffolk in the summer from the north east has anyone got any ideas about how much the livery charges are there?
And what kind of services you can expect.

Can you give us a clue to whereabouts in Suffolk you are going.

We've kept horses on livery near Bury St Edmunds and know those sort of prices.

To be honest you pay for what you get. Most yards will offer either full, part or DIY livery. Some smarter yards will have indoor or outdoor menages and one yard we've used actually had an equine spa as well.

What sort of place are you looking for?

Thanks for replying butkin, i am just after the most basic of facilities with at least an outdoor school and some where nice to ride out, at the moment we dont know where we will be living but kids will be at west suffolk college, so has to be somewhere near there. I will be wanting diy with possibly some extras, like turning out etc. and would only really consider somewhere with all year turnout. So do you have some ideas of prices?

Sounds like you'll be close to us then.

We're sending our connemara away to just the sort of place you're talking about - outdoor menage, DIY or assistance, not very competitive and friendly. They are charging us 100 pounds a week but that will include schooling her every day (the reason she is going) and full livery.

We keep our horses at home but know that there are plenty of places although they can get booked up for Winter Stables (a lot of people only have their own Summer turnout).

I keep mine (mid suffolk) at a BHS riding school cum show yard, 3 outdoor schools and a lot of off-road hacking (about 12 miles of lovely canter tracks) - there are loads and loads of yards to choose from, ours is a bit overstocked at times

schooling livery for our pony is £95 a week, but only £40 working (based on being small and living out), the horse is a bit more in winter when he needs a stable but he can live out (again working livery) for £50 a week from April (cannot come soon enough)

there is a yard not 5 minutes from my house where my neighbour keeps her horse but a dearth of decent hacking unless you like a lot of road work

thats great thanks for all your replies, £40 for livery only is way above what i would normally pay, miffy, what does that include?

well that's working livery, so everything is done but they could use him in the school - I know this is not everyone's cup of tea

Jesus! Do those livery yards have gold plated feed bowls! £95 a week? I just fell off my chair! £40 as a working livery? Come to north essex. £25 tops for diy in a basic yard is what I would pay round here!

I've just read it again, and those are living out prices! I sm just off to have a stiff drink!

Am I paying too much?

I like it where we are though, I know they could both live in for £40 a week each just 5mins from home but we couldn't have nearly as much fun there (plus they scrimp on everything and the horses are all v v lean). Definitely no gold plated feed bowls though!

Don't mind me, I am just a penny pincher! £95 a week does sound a bit steep to me. The dearest place round here is about £70 a week, for 5 day full livery, muck yoursel out at weekends. The usual all yards round here, diy with stable is around £20-30. We are quite rural though so plenty of yards everywhere. We have grass livery on a local farm, with off road hacking for £10 per pony per week. Depends what you want I spose, what suits me wouldn't suit everyone. Xxx

Is lovely in the summer! You need to be pretty hardy to hve them live out all year round! I am sure I would pay much much more when it's snowing sideways and I'm wearing two sets of thermals just to go look at them in February! and we don't have our own ménage.

Hi, does anyone know of any good and inexpensive DIY or part livery yards near Clare in Suffolk please? I'm moving to Poslingford in August and need to make arrangements for my 18h Friesian to do the same. I've called a couple of numbers on websites but not very helpful. Ideally, I'd like full or part livery or, even better, someone to share him who would be willing to help with jobs and I'd be happy for them to do more with him as I only hack. I'd be grateful for any suggestions..?
