anyone experienced at riding with a broken finger or two? little finger is stuck to the one next door as a sort of splint, seems such a minor thing but surely can't just not ride for weeks while it heals

please have lots of useful tips

Errr sorry I struggle with full fingers and thumbs!

Although I have seen people ride without hooking the reins through the little finger - so they just sort of hold the reins through the palm - am I making sense? Mind you, you can't bend it at all I guess? Mmmm. You'll be able to just hack out at a walk though won't you? No lessons or bombing round for a while wouldn't have thought just in case you knock it again.

Would these be any use?

MitchyInge · 28/01/2010 17:46

those reinbows look cool!

have lesson tonight (argh will be late), can bend first two fingers and my thumb around reins but was surprised at how much difference it makes not having those other fingers - have dithered about cancelling but might as well have another go, was not a total disaster on Tues nobody DIED

is already paid for as part of course so might as well try again

I think I would attempt to ride just using the remaining fingers... - so just the index and middle one? Not ideal - but I think I have doen it before when the dog broke my fourth finger.

Have also ridden with broken foot (no stirrups was only way)

Possibly I am stupid.

I seem to remember I had to do the same with the good hand tho - else it felt wierd

MitchyInge · 29/01/2010 08:40

ah, did not think of using good hand in same way - tho it worked ok last night, it was just like having one massive little finger (odd coincidence but a dog broke my finger too)

bit painful at times but struggled on heroically, mangling turns on the forehand

how funny, you riding with a broken foot iggypiggy!

That's dogs for you and it was the horse that broke my foot (a boring story involving a vet, a sore eye, some cobble stones and a rear...)

Well done at succeeding with the riding whilst injured!

You are an inspiration to all of us complete wusses who use dodgy hips etc as a reason not to try hard! Go for it, if you ride with your injury, I will be inspired and do no stirrups on Tuesday (instead of thinking of excuse)
