horse has no bed, is dripping wet and no rug and no haynet

possibly he is eating his bed, looks like there is some hay on the floor but lots of bare concrete patches although lovely high banks

I only just called in briefly because I felt a bit guilty about not seeing him today and am GRRRRR - just spoke to YO's deputy who promises a meeting in the morning, poss change from straw to shavings. I want to get a rubber mat anyway so that might help. It was just awful to see him soaked and with no bed and nothing to munch on in the night

I'm sorry but I just don't believe that he's eaten that much in an hour. This isn't polos, this is hay - it needs chewing. I mean you've seen what happens when you add chaff to mix - it slows them down tenfold!

Pixel · 22/10/2009 18:18

Well I suppose it doesn't hurt them to know you might turn up unexpectedly now and again. Keeps them on their toes.
Don't feel bad, you are entitled to be concerned for your horse, you are the one who will be paying the vet bills if things go wrong.

Owls · 22/10/2009 18:20

You're not the bad guy at all. You turned up to say goodnight and found a sight I think all of us would have been upset at.

Well at least they've put your mind at rest now. Get the shavings down asap!

skihorse · 23/10/2009 08:45

How're you feeling about it all this morning Mitchy?

SpookyAlice · 23/10/2009 11:19

Mitchy - that would piss me right off! I think you are being very controlled. Where is the new yard? (if you don't mind me asking)

MitchyInge · 23/10/2009 13:57

The new one I was interested in is called Topthorn, it's in one of the Stonhams. It looks lovely but I feel too scruffy for it!

Cried myself to sleep last night, what an INFANT but think I was being a bit oversensitive as there was no ill-feeling anywhere today, his stable has been beautifully cleaned out and 5 or 6 bales of shavings put in. Enormous small holed haynet ready for tonight. I feel much happier today, although there is another reason for that, called Joey! 13.2, beautiful baby (6) - have him on trial for a week for my daughter, well all of us really. They want 16 for him or 2 inc tack and rugs. I have been lusting after this pony for ages, current owners are finding him a bit naughty but he's not, he's just young.

Am sure my children would rather have a pony instead of some of the boring house repairs I'd lined up?

We'll be living on beans on toast for a while, that's all. Clincher will be whether 10yo feels happy on him tonight. He lives out and on fresh air practically, I hope she likes him because I am head over heels!

AIBU to get her out of school early to come and have a go on him?

Have to say I am at that yard. Oooh an indoor school.

Pixel · 23/10/2009 17:04

We can't let her go there, they've got a Derby bank. She'll be lethal jumping off it sideways.

Joey sounds lovely. I've got a picture of my mum when she was 10 sitting on her pony who was also named Joey so maybe I'm biased.

Pixel · 23/10/2009 17:05

Owls I know. I'll weep with you.

SpookyAlice · 23/10/2009 17:06

That looks lovely. My biggest problem with my yard is the distance i have to drive to get there. I am actually rather envious of anyone with their horses on full/part livery.

Better point out that this is the first time in my life that i have wanted to have someone else do the horses for me, so that i can actually get to ride. Seem to have run out of time, energy and motivation by the time all the mucking out, haynets etc are done.

sootysox · 23/10/2009 19:08

Can we have an update, Mitchy ?

Love SS xxx

MitchyInge · 24/10/2009 08:18

I bought Joey, I can't quite believe it - we probably will have to go DIY somewhere some day but his livery is almost half Barney's, what with being little and living outside on 2 tiny meals a day. Took advice from a wise one and spent the extra £400 on his existing tack and rug (singular).

My iphone has finally and fully died, with some lovely photos on it I am so desperate to show you all!

How exciting!!!!! Can't wait to see pics

MitchyInge · 24/10/2009 16:23

having been there ALL day, it would be mad to pop back to say good night wouldn't it?

would it?

OP posts:
Owls · 24/10/2009 18:30

No it wouldn't. Go on you know you want to! That's bad news about your phone presumably can be fixed though?

Butkin · 24/10/2009 19:39

Mitchy, just to say we really like Topthorn. We'll be there for both the Saturday and Sunday of Topfest in mid-November! The people who run it seem to be trying really hard.

sootysox · 24/10/2009 23:01

Ahhh, so glad you got Joey plus tack. I hope you and yours have many hours of fun and joy from owning him. Good luck ! SS xxx

MitchyInge · 25/10/2009 08:34

it's such a small world Butkin! I must talk to them and find out £££ and availability, though I suspect they won't be as cheap as the one with no facilities
