Freeze-marking

I think we are going to have to take the plunge and have the horses freeze-marked (shetland is done already). They are microchipped but I don't think it is enough of a deterrent to thieves.
Was just wondering how long do you have to wait after it's done before you can ride them? Assuming it's done under where the saddle goes of course!
