PUK, Equifest, BSPS

Anybody taking their children to the big summer shows during the holidays. We're going to PUK and Equifest but picking our days rather than going for the whole week. We've decided to skip BSPS which, considering how much we paid to join everybody up, we may regret...

I do find it rather odd that on a parents website there aren't any mums and dads taking their kids to the big national summer shows. I'd understand if asking about HOYS or RIHS but rather worrying that people aren't going to these. I wonder if it is the costs to join (I know BSPS in particular is expensive), cost of classes or just that Mumsnetters' kids do other things.

We've just come back from a little show where DD won the Concours d'Elegance and we're now looking forward to doing that class at at PUK and Equifest as it will part of the evening performance and DD (6) will hopefully love riding under the lights. Equifest is a great show and we really enjoyed it there last year. Not quite as high a standard as the other two shows but equally well run and much nearer to our home in Suffolk!

I'm afraid showing isn't really for us. When dd was born and they said 'it's a girl' I will admit to a fleeting fantasy of a little girl with bunches on a dapple grey show pony. Sadly dd isn't remotely interested so that never happened! Strangely that exact pony is now in the field next to us, she has fantastic conformation and paces and no rider...fate is so cruel .
Ds, as you probably know, is autistic. He wouldn't be able to ride by himself and is too old for lead-rein classes. Even if we had the pony, the transport, the money, someone to come with me every time to look after ds and everything else, the showring would still be out of our league. Never mind, I may have grandchildren one day so you never know .
