I have a horse on loan at the moment and my friend kindly lent me a turnout/new zealand rug to use over winter. I thought that i would get it cleaned for her when it gets to spring and woondered how much this would cost?

I think our nearest place only charges about £10 but that doesn't include re-waterproofing or repairs or anything

Well i spent a good hour today sewing one of the surgingles back on because she had managed to pull it off again ,perhaps it would be worth buying a new one to give to my friend as a local saddlery has 25% off all rugs ,so i could get a half decent one for £36

I reently had two of mine cleaned and re-proofed at Countrywide. £23.50 each.

Like a fool I'd not thought to ask the price before I left them assuming they would be around the usual £12/15 mark. Never again.

Best to check with the tack shop/feed shop that offers this service.

We live near Newmarket and lots of tack shops offer rug cleaning/repair but in reality they tend to go to one of a couple of industrial specialists and we go to these direct to keep the price down.

I think we pay about a tenner each just for cleaning but more if you reproof or mend.

Tengreenbottles, depends on the quality of the rug you've borrowed. If it is a goodone just get it cleaned - if a cheap make which is showing wear a new one may be a kind offer.

I don't think we'd use a £36 one unless it was in a great sale. We use Horsewear Ireland - different types for different horses. My hunter is wearing a new Amigo with full neck - which is one of their cheaper rugs but excellent value for money
at about 80 quid.
