What would you say is a reasonable price to accept for the following horse.
16hh 8 year old Irish Draught mare
had 1 foal, basic schooling, mainly hacked except that not seen much of the world so very low mileage.
kind nature, needs muscle build & abit of a makeover, schooling & taking to see the world.
what be a reasonable price to accept for her ?
want a nice family forever home for her ideally.

Depends a bit, whereabouts are you and do you have good facilities to show her? What's her breeding (not that I know anything about ID lines but it may matter to someone looking for that type)? Nice confirmation and will vet sound? Will she take a novice for gentle hacking etc and to plod around the school or does 'needs schooling and to see the world' equate to quite green and will get anxious or take the piss with someone not very experienced and confident (no shame if so but makes a difference to price)? Will she pop a little fence? How are her ground manners, for a big girl that's important.

As a guess I'd say somewhere in the £5-£7.5k range, tricky as a dealer doubtless would ask the top end of that if not more without doing a whole lot with her than you have, but you're not a dealer and want a good home so I'd maybe go for lower end but be picky about buyer?

Is she quiet, sensible, non-spooky? Hack out alone & potentially decent jump?Registered breeding?
If so a dealer would put a bit of work in and sell her for £12k. I've been looking and big sensible types from dealers seem to be around that.
So as long as she can be tried/ridden probably don't ask less than £8k then you have a bit of wiggle room to take offers for perfect home.
Is she a traditional heavier type or more sporty? I'd be really interested to know a bit more I'll pm!

I would say around £5k

With work and milage if you have the time and inclination to put in £12-15k

@Laurenh2503 I think I’ve seen your horse advertised lovely looking horse if it is the correct one.
If this was this time next year you were selling I’d have been in touch sadly not quiet yet ready to purchase my own horse but Irish draught is the breed I’m after for hunting and possibly XC sorry to go off the original question.

Depends how green she is I think if she needs a lot of work probably looking between £4k -£5k without tack also dependant on vet checks as well any behavioural issues.
I think it’s probably better to advertise for an experienced rider not a novice expecting a horse that’s done lots of schooling as you’ll want her to go to an experienced home that can bring her on.
Im sure she will sell very quickly with hunt season being now.
