Hi
This will have been done a million times but I’d be interested to hear your favourite proper warm yard coats.

im talking proper depths of winter warm, water proof and hooded.

Doesn’t need to be for riding.

I’ll be frank, I’m quite vain and like my coats to be nicely fitted, i’e with waist definition etc, so not the dry rob types.

Obviously does not need to be a horsey brand. I have been looking at the Didrickson parkas etc.

thank you!

What’s a yard coat?

britnay · 02/10/2026 13:05

For riding in, or just doing yard jobs?

Hereforthedramaz · 02/10/2026 13:06

Just yard jobs, doesn’t need to be suitable for riding

I've got a Didrikson's waterproof that I wear a fleece underneath on cold days when I'm dog walking. It comes past my knees, and is a really flattering A line shape so it's smart enough to wear to work too (if I get all the mud off).

It wasn't cheap but it was worth the money.

DD has a Horseware coat, it’s lasted really well and is fully waterproof.

I don’t get on with the big robes, I get too hot. I have a Mountain House waterproof which has a reasonably nice female shape. I have that over a shires half zip. I have lemiux waterproof chaps and ariat paddock boots. I have some silva gloves which have finger tips so you can use phone, do up bridles etc. I top off with a lemiux headband/ear warmer. I stay warm and dry and the lot can be bunged in washing machine and be dry for next day. This lovely dry weather won’t last much longer!

I have a uhip long coat (not exactly the same as this one but similar www.uhipwear.com/p/rainy-coat-20-jet-black . I also have a hi-vis rein coat for walking around the lanes when it’s getting dark but it’s way too warm to do yard jobs in (and also not very flattering..)
